How Many Guesses Do You Get in Lexicon? Rules Explained

If you're new to Lexicon, the rules look familiar at first — guess a five-letter word and get feedback — but the details change the game. Here's exactly how many guesses you get and what the feedback means.

How many guesses do you get?

You get **six guesses** to find the hidden five-letter word. That's the same number Wordle uses, but Lexicon's feedback is less specific, so the six guesses feel different in practice.

What the feedback numbers mean

After each guess you see three numbers:

- **Correct** — letters that are in the word and in the right position - **Present** — letters that are in the word but in the wrong position - **Absent** — letters that are not in the word at all

The key difference from Wordle: Lexicon does **not** tell you which letters those numbers refer to. You have to work that out yourself from the overlap between guesses.

Example turn

If the hidden word is CRANE and you guess TRAIN, the feedback would be:

- Correct: 1 (the R is in position 2 in both words) - Present: 1 (the A is in CRANE but in position 5, not position 3) - Absent: 3 (T, I, N are not in CRANE)

From one guess you now know R is likely in position 2 and A is somewhere in the word. The deduction comes from combining that with your next guess.

Does every puzzle have a solution in six?

Yes. Every Lexicon board is checked to make sure the target word can be found within six guesses with reasonable play. You won't hit a word that requires a lucky stab.
