Hint 1: Open with an equation that uses varied digits and one operator
An opener like 12+34=46 tests six different digits and one operator at once. Starting with a multiplication or division equation narrows things down slower, since fewer distinct digits appear.
Hint 2: Track the operator position, not just the digits
The operator and the equals sign each occupy a fixed slot in the eight-character answer. Once you know where '=' sits, you've effectively learned the split between the expression and the target — that's real structural information, not just a character clue.
Hint 3: Use order of operations to rule out entire equation shapes
If your feedback shows a '*' or '/' is present but not in its guessed position, remember multiplication/division always resolves before addition/subtraction — that constrains which shapes (a+b*c=d vs a*b+c=d) are even possible.
