Knot — Free Daily Untangle Puzzle

Drag the dots until every line uncrosses.

Knot is a free daily spatial puzzle: a set of points is connected by lines, and several of those lines cross each other — that's the tangle. Drag any point to a new position and its connected lines move with it. The goal is simple to state and genuinely tricky to do: reposition every point until no two lines cross anywhere on the board. Free, no signup, one new tangle every day at 00:00 UTC, with unlimited practice in between.

Rules

A set of points is connected by lines. Some lines currently cross each other — that's the tangle.

Drag any point to a new position. The lines connected to it move with it.

Red lines are currently crossing something. When a line turns grey, it's clear.

You win when every line is clear — no crossings anywhere on the board.

Hard mode (Pro) uses more points and more connections, for a genuinely tougher tangle.

A new tangle appears every day at 00:00 UTC. Practice mode is unlimited.

How to play Knot

  1. 1A board shows points connected by straight lines. Some lines currently cross — that's the puzzle.
  2. 2Click or tap and drag any point to move it. Every line attached to that point moves with it.
  3. 3A red line means it's currently crossing another line. A grey line is clear.
  4. 4Reposition points until every single line is grey — no crossings left anywhere.
  5. 5The daily tangle resets at 00:00 UTC and is the same for every player.

Knot strategy

Move the busiest point first

A point with many connections touches many potential crossings at once. Repositioning it early tends to resolve several tangles in one move, rather than chasing one crossing at a time.

Push points toward the edges, not the centre

Crossings happen when lines have to pass near the middle of the board to connect distant points. Spreading points outward, closer to the boundary, generally gives lines more room to avoid each other.

Accept temporary new crossings to escape a local dead end

Sometimes the only way to reduce the total tangle is to move a point into a spot that creates one new crossing while it clears two others. Don't be afraid of a move that looks worse for a moment.

Knot vs Vertex and other dot-connecting games

Knot is a different puzzle from a picture-reveal dot game — it's a pure untangling challenge, closer to the classic 'planarity' puzzle genre.

Knot — frequently asked questions

What is Knot?

Knot is a free daily untangle puzzle. A set of points and connecting lines starts tangled, with several lines crossing — you drag points until every line is clear.

How do you play Knot?

Drag any point to a new position; its connected lines move with it. Red lines are crossing something, grey lines are clear. Win when every line is grey.

Is Knot the same as NYT Vertex?

No — Vertex is a picture-reveal game where connecting dots forms a hidden image. Knot is a pure untangling puzzle: reposition points until no lines cross, closer to the classic 'planarity' puzzle genre.

Is Knot free?

Yes, both the daily puzzle and unlimited practice mode are free with no account required.

How often does Knot change?

A new tangle appears each day at 00:00 UTC and every player receives the same one.

Is there always a solution?

Yes — every puzzle is generated from a layout that's already crossing-free, then scrambled. A valid untangled arrangement always exists.
