Free Printable Logic Puzzles for Adults (PDF)

Download 12 free printable logic puzzles for adults: Star Battle and Takuzu, from warm-up to challenge, with rules and full answers. Print-ready PDF.

Sometimes the best puzzle is the one on paper. No notifications, no battery, no tabs: just a grid, a pencil and twenty quiet minutes. If you're looking for free printable logic puzzles for adults, we've put together a pack of twelve from our own puzzle book, with the rules, worked examples and every answer. Below you'll find what's inside, how to get the PDF, and tips for printing and solving.

What's in the free pack

The pack contains 12 puzzles of two kinds, alternating so you never get stuck on one style for too long:

  • 6 Star Battle puzzles. Place one star in every row, every column and every outlined region, with no two stars touching, not even diagonally. These are the paper version of the daily Queens game.
  • 6 Takuzu puzzles. Fill the grid with ● and ○ so every row and column has the same number of each, with never three alike in a row. These are the paper version of the daily Tango game.

The first six come from the Warm-Up level of the book (7×7 Star Battle and 6×6 Takuzu), perfect for learning the rules. The other six come from the Challenge level (9×9 Star Battle and 8×8 Takuzu), where you'll need a few real techniques. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, checked by computer, so you never have to guess.

The PDF also includes:

  • A rules page for each puzzle type with a solved example.
  • Starting tips for each type.
  • Full answers at the back, on their own pages so you can't peek by accident.
  • A cover page, so it looks great printed and stapled.

You can choose whether you'd also like the occasional email about new books and printables; that's optional, never daily, and separate from our daily puzzle newsletter.

Printing tips

  • Paper size. The PDF is US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches). On A4 paper, choose "Fit to page" or "Scale to fit" in your print settings and everything prints perfectly.
  • Black and white is fine. The puzzles are designed for black-and-white printing; Star Battle regions use shades of grey that stay clear on any printer.
  • Print only what you need. Want just the Star Battle puzzles? Print the page ranges you like. The answers are grouped at the end.
  • Use a pencil. You'll want to make small marks and erase them. A soft pencil and a good eraser make all the difference.
  • Print extra copies. The pack is free for personal and classroom use, so print as many copies as you like for friends, family or a puzzle club.

How to solve Star Battle

The rules fit in three lines, but a few habits make it much easier:

  1. Mark the impossible. Every time you place a star, cross out its eight neighbours and the rest of its row, column and region. You'll place far more crosses than stars.
  2. Look for regions stuck in one line. If a region sits entirely in one row, its star must be in that row, so every other cell of the row can be crossed out.
  3. Count groups. If two regions fit inside the same two columns, those columns are used up by them, and every other cell in those columns is empty.

Our full Star Battle solving guide has nine techniques with examples.

How to solve Takuzu

  1. Close off pairs. Two identical symbols side by side must have the opposite symbol on both ends, or you'd make three in a row.
  2. Fill the gaps. A gap between two identical symbols (● _ ●) must be the opposite.
  3. Count. On a 6×6 grid, each line has three of each symbol. Once a line has all three ●, the rest are ○.
  4. Use the hints. Some puzzles have "=" and "×" signs between cells: "=" means the two cells match, "×" means they're opposite.

A first solve, step by step

Here's how a typical warm-up Star Battle goes. Start by scanning for small regions: a region of two or three cells along an edge usually has only a couple of possible spots. Look for a region that lies entirely in one row or column, and cross out the rest of that line. Each cross you add makes another region smaller, until one of them has a single cell left: that's your first star. Cross out its neighbours, its row, its column and its region, and look again. Most warm-up boards fall in five to ten minutes this way.

For Takuzu, start with any pair of identical symbols and close both ends with the opposite symbol. Then look for gaps between two identical symbols. When a row has its full share of one symbol, fill the rest with the other. Repeat, and the grid fills in steady waves.

Large print and accessibility

If you'd like bigger grids, print one page per sheet at 100% or even zoom in slightly on Letter or A4. The puzzles are drawn as vector graphics, so they stay sharp at any size. High-contrast black lines and clear symbols make them comfortable for readers who find small newspaper puzzles hard to see.

Make it a weekly ritual

Twelve puzzles is about two weeks of a puzzle every weekday, or a lovely Sunday-morning project. Many solvers keep the printed pages in a folder with a pencil clipped to the front, and work through one with their coffee. It's a small, calm habit that's easy to keep.

Who these puzzles are for

  • Sudoku fans looking for something fresh with the same "only one place left" satisfaction.
  • Daily puzzle players who love Queens or Tango and want a paper version.
  • Anyone who wants a screen-free break: in the evening, on a train, or with a morning coffee.
  • Puzzle clubs, care homes and classrooms looking for print-ready material with answers.

If the warm-up puzzles feel easy, jump straight to the challenge ones. If the challenge ones feel hard, that's normal: they need the techniques above, and the satisfaction of cracking one is worth it.
